30 For 30: Travay Pou Chanjman is a collective of JMU students and faculty who challenge the Harrisonburg community to raise urgently-needed funds for earthquake relief in Haiti. “Travay pou chanjman” is Haitian-Creole for “work for change”—and that is our goal. We believe that by working together we can have a powerful, cumulative effect to contribute to meaningful and long-lasting change in Haiti. Every penny you donate (including the cover charges) will go directly to Partners In Health, Haiti Outreach Foundation, and Fonkoze, three organizations working hard to bring meaningful relief to Haitian people.

Staffing needed for 30 for 30

Hello 30 for 30!

As we approach the final leg of our campaign I am amazed at how nicely things are starting to come together. Today we held Collection Tables on the Warren Patio and in the Warren Vendor Space and collected almost $180.00! If we can do this in just one day, I know that we can make great strides during the next two weeks. There are still several open spots available to staff Collection Tables. We particularly need people to staff tables in Festival and in the Warren Vendor Space (inside, near the mailboxes). Here are the links to the online sign up sheets:

Festival: http://www.doodle.com/wtqb3xfmruknfw3h

Warren Vendor Space (inside): http://www.doodle.com/vtw4f2fkqvpwki8g

Warren Patio (outside): http://www.doodle.com/gzf5993gu8tmss9s

Thank you all for everything you are doing to help Haiti! If you have any questions about the sign up sheets or the tables in general, please reply to this email or contact me on my cell phone at 240-277-0525. Remember: we are in the home stretch, let's sprint to the finish line!

Sincerely,
Marie McDonald

30 for 30: Strength Through Unity

An organization has formed on JMU's campus with a big goal to raise money for Haiti called "30 for 30: Strength through Unity"

30 for 30 is trying to raise $30k in the next 30 days (Ending February 24th). They have an array of events across campus to help raise money and raise awareness about the disaster in Haiti. They believe that if only 20% of JMU's campus donates at least $5 we can make this goal a reality. They are donating to 3 different organizations with this money:

Partners in Health (doing excellent health-related work around Haiti) http://www.pih.org/

International Partnership of La Gonave (an organization JMU is already deeply involved with through the work of Tacy and O'Connor. Is organized to help with food and provisions) http://www.cisat.jmu.edu/international/haiti/

Fonkoze (an alternative bank that serves the needs of the poor. This sort of institution is critical for Haitians to rebuild their country) http://www.fonkoze.org/

Please join this facebook group to learn more about 30 for 30's events on campus: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?v=info&ref=search&gid=290613606514

How can you help Haiti?

Welcome to the JMU Helping Haiti blog sponsored by your Student Government Association!

Please use this blog as a resource for information on how to get involved on campus, to what's happening locally, to what events you can go to, and where you can donate money for Haiti Relief. We encourage JMU groups or students that are planning Haiti events to please let us know via this survey: http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dC14bGxQSnppcTl3UUpGS0ptRlF4SHc6MA

The SGA is trying to collaborate and consolidate Haiti Relief initiatives to make sure we can create a strong front as a university to support this cause. Please let us know if we can help you in any of your events and keep us posted with what's going on around campus!
